Enhancement of the Mechanical Performance of Glass-Fibre-Reinforced Composites through the Infusion Process of a Thermoplastic Recyclable Resin

Mechanical testing of glass-fibre-reinforced composite (GFRP) plates made twill fabric and a thermoplastic recyclable infusion resin is presented. The considered resin, ELIUM®, poly-methylmethacrylate can be infused with properly tuned vacuum techniques, in the same manner as all liquid resin. Tensile, flexural, drop-dart impact tests were carried out to assess mechanical properties composites considering different fabrication conditions, such degassing pressure before three pressures. work reports methodology infuse ELIUM at relatively high 0.8 bar. X-ray microtomography analysis showed that produced laminates are free defects, differently from what was reported literature, where void problems related higher than 0.3–0.5 bar pointed out. Vacuum values influence characteristics laminate: when pressures adopted, GFRP enhanced elastic modulus strength obtained. On other hand, does not laminates. A maximum bending tensile 420 305 MPa reached by using an 18.5 20.6 GPa, respectively. density increases up value 1.81 g/cm3 fibre volume fraction each laminate.
